DEFINITIONS OF THE "ART PHOTO" by R.L.Huffstutter

THE DEFINITION OF THE "ART PHOTO"
by R.L.Huffstutter
Almost everyone has an album or a box full of snapshots taken throughout the years.
In each album and within every box of these images of times past, there is an art photo, a photograph that is a favorite, a photo for whatever reason appeals to one's senses. That's to say, there is an image that fills the viewer with emotion. The emotion might be one of joy, one of sorrow, an image that returns one's mind to another place, another time.
The art photo is one that was taken to express the moment; this photo makes an impression. The art photo that is like a painting that is one of impressionism and expressionism, the photo that is the personal masterpiece of the photographer that took the picture. The photographer is the artist, the picture is the "art photo."
Art photos, then, are not French postcards with images of scantily-clad or naked women. The art photo, the American picture, the masterpiece within the box or in the album.

BACKYARD CRITTERS IN THE MIDWEST

MY GRANDSON'S LAB CORNERED A CRITTER
IN THE GIANT MAPLE TREE AND BARKED HALF THE NIGHT. IT WAS A VIRTUAL GAME OF HIDE AND SEEK WITHIN THE COVER OF A TREE ALREADY HOME TO HALF A DOZEN SQUIRREL FAMILIES AND SUSPICIOUS OTHER CRITTERS OF
VARIED SIZES AND SORTS. IT MADE A GREAT NIGHT
OF SHOOTING RACOONS
WITH HIS DIGITAL
CANON.
THERE WERE MANY OTHER IMAGES BUT FOR SOME
REASON, EACH IMAGE APPEARED THE SAME; IN EACH IMAGE
TWO WHITE DOTS, THE EYES OF THE ANXIOUS CRITTER, LOOKED ALMOST THE SAME, A LITTLE LARGER EACH TIME UNTIL THE RACOON
MADE A BREAK AND ESCAPED TO THE FREEDOM OF HIS NIGHT.

AS IN THE BEGINNING
by R.L.Huffstutter
"...as in all things, there must be a beginning and that beginning begins upon one's first joy from viewing what another person has defined as art," stated Earl R. Stonebridge in a recent interview. "What I enjoy about art is the difference between opinions."

TIME OUT FOR REST AND
RENEWING BODY AND SPIRIT
IT'S A GREAT MESSAGE...In today's fast-paced society with so much emphasis centered on the right nutrition and physical excellence, it was pleasant to view an attractive and physically fit young woman taking time out from her jogging to relax the muscles. Certainly, she was the focus of more than a few admiring glances and a minimum of scowls, but my congratulation to this lady for being intelligent and uninhibited enough to rest her body and renew her energy.

PLAZA ART FAIR AND DOGS GALORE

PLAZA ART FAIR DOGS ON PARADE By R.L.Huffstutter

I love dogs and enjoy shooting photos of dogs. Dogs never get nasty or ugly about photos. In fact, most of the dogs I've ever seen enjoy the sight of the lens reflecting in their curious eyes and like to hear the "click" of the snapshot. In addition to the great art at the Plaza Art Fair, one of Kansas City's International Events, their are dogs that love to parade around gazing at the people. This last weekend was perfect weather for the art and dog show. Pictured above, the first of many dog snapshots to follow. Will your dog be featured? Return later and find out.

It was a perfect weekend for an art fair.

"THE BEST AND THE BIGGEST IN HISTORY OF THE PLAZA ART FAIR ..."

was the general opinion of those who spoke with me about this fantastic Kansas City event. I've been to quite a few since 1958 and this is the best one so far. The first Plaza Art Fair I attended was on a field trip organized by one very wonderful high school art teacher, Mrs. Lucy Jenkins who taught at Van Horn in the 1950s and 1960s. She inspired quite a few of us to pursue our interests in art. The Plaza Art Fair has changed considerably since then; it has become a national event, one of the biggest and best anywhere in the USA. That's my opinion, of course, but an opinion I value when it comes to art, Kansas City and the USA, three of my favorite subjects.

WINETASTER'S CLUB SHOW OFF NEW SHADES BY R.L.HUFFSTUTTER

CALIFORNIA WINETASTERS SAVOR MISSOURI WINES
Several weeks ago a small group of California wine tasters traveled to Missouri wine country to try out a select collection of midwestern vintage wines. The members of the informal club who preferred to remain unidentified were all friends of Laguna Beach resident novelist, Earl R. Stonebridge. "Just a group of my favorite winos," Earl told the members of the local press who covered the event. Raised eyebrows and uncertain facial expressions of the local reporters required Earl to inform them he was just kidding about the "wino" status of his friends. Everyone seemed to become somewhat more relaxed after Earl clarified his comment as off-the-cuff and spur-of-the -moment humor.

JAPANESE MATCH BOX COLLECTION RECALLS MYRIAD OF MEMORIES BY R.L.HUFFSTUTTER

the main reason I began collecting matchboxes was because they were neat looking with unusual graphics--and they were free. So, I ended up with more than a few thousand during my tour of duty in Japan. Each one, well almost each one, recalls a certain place in time.

ROBERT HUFFSTUTTER'S EXAMPLES OF PAINTPROGRAM ART

THE PAINTPROGRAM THAT IS INCLUDED IN MANY PCS IS BASICALLY A SIMPLE PROGRAM THAT HAS MANY PURPOSES, ONE BEING THE CREATION OF STYLIZED ILLUSTRATIONS AND PERSONAL ARTISTIC EXPRESSIONS. THE ABSENCE OF TUBES OF OIL AND WATERCOLOR PAINT AND THE REST OF THE ITEMS THAT CAN TAKE TIME AND CREATE MESSES MAKES PAINTPROGRAM EASY TO USE. THE PENCIL INCLUDED IN THIS PROGRAM LACKS THE TOTAL CONTROL THAT ONE HAS WHEN A REAL PENCIL IS IN HAND AND BEING USED FOR DRAWING AND SKETCHING.
