PLAZA ART FAIR AND DOGS GALORE

PLAZA ART FAIR DOGS ON PARADE By R.L.Huffstutter

I love dogs and enjoy shooting photos of dogs. Dogs never get nasty or ugly about photos. In fact, most of the dogs I've ever seen enjoy the sight of the lens reflecting in their curious eyes and like to hear the "click" of the snapshot. In addition to the great art at the Plaza Art Fair, one of Kansas City's International Events, their are dogs that love to parade around gazing at the people. This last weekend was perfect weather for the art and dog show. Pictured above, the first of many dog snapshots to follow. Will your dog be featured? Return later and find out.

It was a perfect weekend for an art fair.

"THE BEST AND THE BIGGEST IN HISTORY OF THE PLAZA ART FAIR ..."

was the general opinion of those who spoke with me about this fantastic Kansas City event. I've been to quite a few since 1958 and this is the best one so far. The first Plaza Art Fair I attended was on a field trip organized by one very wonderful high school art teacher, Mrs. Lucy Jenkins who taught at Van Horn in the 1950s and 1960s. She inspired quite a few of us to pursue our interests in art. The Plaza Art Fair has changed considerably since then; it has become a national event, one of the biggest and best anywhere in the USA. That's my opinion, of course, but an opinion I value when it comes to art, Kansas City and the USA, three of my favorite subjects.

WINETASTER'S CLUB SHOW OFF NEW SHADES BY R.L.HUFFSTUTTER

CALIFORNIA WINETASTERS SAVOR MISSOURI WINES
Several weeks ago a small group of California wine tasters traveled to Missouri wine country to try out a select collection of midwestern vintage wines. The members of the informal club who preferred to remain unidentified were all friends of Laguna Beach resident novelist, Earl R. Stonebridge. "Just a group of my favorite winos," Earl told the members of the local press who covered the event. Raised eyebrows and uncertain facial expressions of the local reporters required Earl to inform them he was just kidding about the "wino" status of his friends. Everyone seemed to become somewhat more relaxed after Earl clarified his comment as off-the-cuff and spur-of-the -moment humor.

JAPANESE MATCH BOX COLLECTION RECALLS MYRIAD OF MEMORIES BY R.L.HUFFSTUTTER

the main reason I began collecting matchboxes was because they were neat looking with unusual graphics--and they were free. So, I ended up with more than a few thousand during my tour of duty in Japan. Each one, well almost each one, recalls a certain place in time.

ROBERT HUFFSTUTTER'S EXAMPLES OF PAINTPROGRAM ART

THE PAINTPROGRAM THAT IS INCLUDED IN MANY PCS IS BASICALLY A SIMPLE PROGRAM THAT HAS MANY PURPOSES, ONE BEING THE CREATION OF STYLIZED ILLUSTRATIONS AND PERSONAL ARTISTIC EXPRESSIONS. THE ABSENCE OF TUBES OF OIL AND WATERCOLOR PAINT AND THE REST OF THE ITEMS THAT CAN TAKE TIME AND CREATE MESSES MAKES PAINTPROGRAM EASY TO USE. THE PENCIL INCLUDED IN THIS PROGRAM LACKS THE TOTAL CONTROL THAT ONE HAS WHEN A REAL PENCIL IS IN HAND AND BEING USED FOR DRAWING AND SKETCHING.

WHY DOGS ARE SO HAPPY WHEN WE ARE SAD BY R.L. HUFFSTUTTER

DOGS DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO DETECT THE SHADOW PEOPLE THAT SOME HUMANS SENSE ARE IN AND AROUND EVERY BEND IN THE ROAD.

PERSONALLY, I DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM, BUT MOST EVERYONE I HAVE TALKED WITH ARE FASCINATED AND SOMEWHAT CONFUSED ABOUT THE SHADOW PEOPLE. THE SHADOW PEOPLE WERE DISCOVERED AND MADE PUBLIC, OR SO I AM TOLD, BY ART BELL, THAT ALL NIGHT RADIO TALKER WHO SUDDENLY WENT INTO HIDING SOMEWHERE OUT ON THE NEVADA DESERT. IF YOU ARE AWARE OF WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, PLEASE RESPOND WITH A COMMENT OR EMAIL
.

SO, THE ANSWER TO THE TITLE OF THIS BLOG IS THE FIRST SENTENCE OF THIS BLOG. THANKS AND VISIT HERE AGAIN VERY SOON. THEY LOVE TO KNOW YOU ARE READING ABOUT THEM. THAT IS, THE DOGS...AND THE "SHADOW PEOPLE."

KANSAS CITY LOVES COKE AND THE PLAZA

THIS ISN'T KATHY'S CLOWN, BUT HE'S IN TOWN. A POPULAR SPOT THAT MARKS A BUSY INTERSECTION IN THE PLAZA AREA. Look for this mythical figure just west of the J.C.Nichols Statue in Kansas City's Country Club Plaza Area.....

THE UPTOWN THEATER IS REALLY IN MIDTOWN, By R.L.Huffstutter

When one is uptown in Kansas City, Missouri, they are really in midtown, not downtown or not uptown, but imagine how this theater looked in the 1950s.

I can only imagine that there must have been lines of teenage girls wearing felt skirts with cutout poodles and cocktail glasses while their boyfriends wore white sport coats with pink carnations.

The shoes of both the boys and their girl friends? Black and white saddle oxfords. You can only imagine the hairstyles. Those were you future grandparents and/or parents out on a date at a classy picture show...Uptown in midtown Kansas City, Missouri. It is still a popular and active establishment today for concerts.

It was cool then. And it is cool now. In the summers, it is "air-cooled."

WINDOWS THAT SHOUT ART By Robert L.Huffstutter

Only a person who truly appreciates art can look out these window with a smile of self-satisfaction. The windows in the top image are part of the buildings featured in the image below. If these windows arent arty, I don't know of any other terms that might define them unless, of course, one might want to call them "ornate." These windows can be seen in a 1920s style apartment building just south of Brush Creek canal on the Kansas City Country Club Plaza. These are the windows around the top floors of this deluxe old apartment building.
